"NOW" Magazine

Graphic Design I Final

Objective: To create a magazine on a topic of our choice using the various techniques learned in class and the following required elements: a cover page, editor's note, table of contents, 1 advertisement & the facial composition project.

Made using Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, & Illustrator

I chose to create a Fashion & Beauty Magazine. I interviewed and photographed my friends, as well as featured some of their creative work. (See editor's note for more information & list of collaborators).

*Other asset sources include Google & Pinterest

Below are 2 of my mood boards for the project.

The facial composition project (back of magazine) practiced the technique of layering, blending, and retouching. I took 3 photographs of my classmates and merged it with 1 celebrity to create a composite face featuring different aspects from each of the faces.

Mini Magazine I

Graphic Design I

Objective: To create a magazine on a topic of our choice using the masking technique, a variation of muted and bright colors, and the following required elements: a cover page & 3 full spreads using the masked assets (and Lorem Ipsum for filler text).

Made using Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, & Illustrator

Because we chose words and photographs that described us, I created a magazine that reflected my current interests and hobbies at the time. I featured modeling, makeup, and the performing arts.

Mini Magazine II

Graphic Design I

Objective: To create a magazine on a topic of our choice using wrap text, photographs taken and edited in class, a personal logo, grids, and the following required elements: a cover page & 3 full spreads.

Made using Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, & Illustrator

For this magazine, I featured photos of myself that were taken by a peer. I edited and compiled the photos using a variation of colors, textures, and styles.

As a part of the assignment, I designed a sun that had a wave, stars, and my name inside for my personal logo (found on the cover page).

"My Passions Keep Me Sane"

Communications & Media Broadcast Study I Final

Objective: Choose a quote and create a video that interprets or demonstrates that quote using the various techniques learned in class and has/meets the following requirements: a quote, various types of shots & 1-3 minutes in length.

Made using DSLR videography & Final Cut Pro

An exploration into the “work-life” balance of college students as they discover and pursue their passions.

For this project, I chose to feature my friends and their passions--what keeps them sane as college students.

The quote I chose is “I would rather die of passion than of boredom,” famously quoted by Vincent Van Gogh. The original quote, “Je préfère crever de passion que de crever d’ennui!,” came from the French novel, Au Bonheur des Dames, written by French novelist Émile Zola. The quote was changed slightly as the novel was translated from French to English. Although the quote was made famous by Van Gogh, I credit the original French saying to Zola.
