Fashion Institute of the Philippines Graduation Fashion Show 2019

Uhm so does this make me an international model now? Hehe I wish. But all jokes aside,

this show was a big deal for me. It was my first international runway show and it was my first paid booking ever.

When I met with Designer, Mariton Villanueva, for my first fitting for her Himaya collection, I was extremely excited and grateful to be a part of my first show ever in the Philippines. What was just a loose dream before, was now happening. I was in the Philippines at a fitting for my first international model booking ever. As we were discussing the collection, Mariton asked if I would be comfortable getting my hair braided with extensions. I had never done anything like it before so I agreed.

We met up with Chizzy, the hair stylist, the night before the show and in about 3 hours she managed to braid my hair. The extensions were heavy. On top of my already long hair, she added about 2 more thick bundles of hair to my head.

I showed up to rehearsal the next morning and everyone was shocked at my hair. They didn't know that I was going to have my hair done like this. A lot of people were touching it and asking me questions about it. (It made a good conversation ice-breaker) As we started getting ready for the show in hair and makeup, they used a lot of bobby pins and hairspray and put my hair into an updo. That's when I really felt the weight of all the hair on my head.

When it came time for the show, I was extremely nervous, but in the best way possible. My heart was pounding and my palms were sweating. I was going to make my Manila debut tonight. It made me tear up a bit that what I once joked about was actually happening. What a surreal feeling. It was a bummer that my parents weren't able to be there but my aunt, uncle, and cousins made sure they cheered me on for everyone who wasn't able to make it. After walking the runway, we took the stage again for the judging period. On top of my Manila debut, my designer, Mariton won several awards for her Himaya collection.

Designer Mariton Villanueva received the Best in Technique award and the 1st Runner Up Designer of the Year award for her collection

I kept the braids in for 4 more days after the show before taking them out to wash my hair, but it was awesome while it lasted. It definitely made my first international runway show a night to remember.
