Juneteenth Festival Runway Show 2020

With all that has been going on with COVID-19 and the recent Black Lives Matter Movement and protests, the past few weeks have been intense. I definitely learned a lot about myself, the movement, and how I can be a more active and informed citizen. I didn't think I was going to get back to work as soon as this, but when designer Olivia Armstead reached out to me again about doing a project for the Juneteenth festival, I thought it would be a good way to get back to work while staying involved with current events and supporting the Black and Brown communities.

For this project, she and fellow stylist, Mario Benton, and designer, Zenzele Nuru, needed models to help with filming the livestream runway show they would be playing during the Juneteenth Festival. In an attempt to follow social distancing rules, they only used 6-7 models who wore several different outfits from each collection instead of using one model per outfit per collection. Each model had to vouch for good health before entering the set, we refrained from touching one another unless necessary, and we also had hand sanitizer available.

After the fittings, we got our makeup done by artist, Shawniece, and then waited for BumpinMedia to finish setting up for the show. With our makeshift runway, BumpinMedia filmed each girl down the runway one by one to later edit a video that would simulate a virtual runway show. We repeated the filming process for each model for each outfit from the three collections.

Below you can find some of my favorite photos (both behind-the-scenes and professional) from the day's shoot and show. You can tune into the livestream show on June 19th at http://www.juneteenthfestivalonline.com/
